Internet Marketing Tools

Many people become frustrated at the apparent difficulty of successful Internet marketing – and with good reason. A lot of so-called gurus hand out advice without having ever tried or tested it themselves. The Internet is a constantly changing environment, but there are three basic ground rules for success.  If you can provide the following three ingredients, you will be successful.

1. Quality content. No matter the industry or product you are selling – the content on your website is the foundation of success. That content will vary from niche to niche, industry to industry, but the need for quality remains. And this ranges from decent speed page loads to well designed pages that are easily navigable. “Content is King,” is an old saying that has become more or less true depending on the day, but – with quality content – you are never second guessing your reasons to have failed. You know if your content is good. I do.

And if you do not know when your content is good – for goodness’ sake go pay some one who does to tell you. Producing good content requires skill and knowledge of the product or service you are selling, and the ability to answer your potential customer’s questions with authority – and offer them a solution.

2. Good research. It is all very well having the absolutely best webpage about interesting corn flakes shaped like famous politician’s profiles, but your audience is going to be severely limited. Determining who is searching for what online, how much competition there is for that subject and how easy that is to monetize are key ingredients. This drills down all the way to the product or service you are selling. If you are selling red widgets and the market is calling for blue widgets, this is important information to have. This information is readily available and there are a number of free analysis tools including the google adwords tool.

The problem – especially for a novice – with the google adwords tool is that it offers the advertiser competition for a term rather than the publisher competition. Many people become confused by this and wrongly assume that a term is either achievable or not based on the wrong information. It is also inaccurate on occasion. I speak from personal experience. It is therefore vital to use tools that will analyze the competition for a search term as far as publishers are concerned rather than advertisers.

A few tools that are worthwhile investing in:

  • Niche Horde - Stuck for keyword ideas? This tool will scour the Internet for easy-to-rank-for search terms.
  • WebComp AnalystAnalyze the competition for any search term right down to the amount of incoming links to any competing pages.
  • Keyword Academy – Learn keyword research from the ground up.

3. Good promotion and/or advertising. Traffic and visitors to your website are all important. Without this, – no matter the content and the research – you are going to fail. If the first two are taken care of – i.e. you have good quality well researched content that is appealing, this phase is far easier, but if your content is poor quality and badly researched, you will fail. This phase of your business needs expert advice to maximize your budget. These are some inexpensive tools to help you create incoming links which will help promote your site:

I am part of two driving enthusiast clubs, and we are having a 200 mile drive on Sept 18th, and Oct 11th both in NY. I was wondering if you would be interested in supplying vinyl decals for us. We promote driving at reasonable and prudent speeds and not endangering others lives.
Also, most vehicles on these drives are in good shape, certainly nothing you would be ashamed of having your name on. Trapster, Michelin and most likely subaruonlineparts.com are already providing decals for drivers and I have requests out to others.
Please let me know if you’d be interested, we aren’t looking for “sponsorship” but just some decals from sites and companies, and feedback on any exposure results, to be used for future sponsorship.
Thanks!
